Is your energy bill too high these days? Are you looking for new ways to cut costs on electricity without having to sacrifice comfort in your own home? Trying to save money for electricity bills can be drag, but there are several things you can do to reduce your cost each month.
You don’t need to worry about turning off your appliances. Your air conditioning units and everyday appliances can continue to function if you follow a few simple tips to reduce their use during the daytime. Here are 5 ways your home electricity bill can be reduced.
While heating and air conditioning are not required appliances for the home, you may still wish to install them to provide better comfort to yourself and your family. If you find that the majority of your electricity bill is due to the air conditioning unit, there are a couple of things you can do to keep costs low while still being able to use your units.
You can drastically reduce the cost of your electricity bill by cleaning and opening your vents. When your vents are blocked by the accumulation of dust and dirt, your air units have to work harder to push air out of them. Be sure to clean them and keep them open often; that way, your air conditioning unit won’t have to work as hard.
You can also try running fans instead of your air conditioning unit for a while. This can help circulate air flow throughout your apartment or house, without building up in cost.
If you live in an apartment complex, you may have a shared unit laundry facility rather than your own private laundry machines. But if you do have your own laundry machines, however, you can reduce their cost by keeping the heat level on your laundry unit low.
Washing your clothes on high heat can be effective if you need to sanitize something or kill bed bugs, but for your average, everyday laundry loads, you don’t need to use such a hot temperature. By reducing the heat of your laundry machine, it will require less electricity to run, making your bill a lot cheaper at the end of the month.
You should also try to do your laundry after 8:00 at night. During the night time, it is often cheaper to use electricity. Many electrical companies charge less for the use of electricity at night, rather than in the middle of a hot afternoon. Use this reduced rate to your advantage and wait to do your laundry at night.
Did you know that some Singapore electrical installation such as electronic devices and appliances use up more electricity than others per minute? Keep an eye out for how many plugs you’re using at once. Make a list of the electrical devices you’re using and make sure to only use one or two at a time. It’s easy for the price of electricity to stack up when you forget how many devices you have turned on in a single minute.
Again, there are certain electronics that have a much higher energy use than others. Some examples of these include:
You can replace some of these devices with tools that don’t use any electricity at all. For example, you can use a pot or a regular kettle to boil water. You can reduce the amount your computer is on by turning it off when you aren’t working. And, you can unplug your video game consoles when they aren’t in use.
A great way to remember which devices are plugged in at once is to put them all into a power strip. You can use a power strip, or a surge protector, to keep all of your electrical components in the same place. That way, it’s easier to keep track of them as well as unplug them when they aren’t in use.
With a power strip, you don’t have to worry about unplugging everything individually, either. You can simply flip the switch on the power strip and turn everything off! Studies have shown that this reduces the amount of electricity used in the average home by over 17%, which can really knock down the price on your power bill.
